Our Property Department combines a thorough knowledge of the law with realisation of the importance that property plays in the lives of us all. Our legal expertise in this field is used in conjunction with a practical and pragmatic approach to the law to reach the desired results for our clients. The property related work broadly comprises:-

  • The sale and purchase of residential property.
  • The sale and purchase of commercial property.
  • The granting, disposal or acquisition of leases.
  • Liquor licences in connection with public houses and restaurants.
  • The purchase of UK properties for overseas residents.

We are on the panels of all major banks and buildings societies and over the years have developed a network of other specialists (Surveyors, Agents etc.) upon whom we may call for advice on behalf of our clients. We have a flourishing department dealing in sales and purchases for those resident abroad and have strong links in the Far East particularly in Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The partner in charge of the Property Department retains those links with regular visits to clients and professional contacts in the Far East. Conveyancing quotations will always be supplied in writing.

The Family Department undertakes to reduce confrontation as much as possible. Confrontation increases stress and costs. We adopt the codes imposed by the Law Society Family Law Panel and by Resolution; we achieve this by membership of both organisations. Having been working in the Canary Wharf area from day one, we are in tune with the special requirements of those who also work here. This includes speed of response (by email), flexible access to legal advice early morning and late evening, and a long experience of representing clients from other countries. We will act to protect the assets and income of those involved in divorce.

The Family Department deals with all aspects of family law :-

Divorce
Separation
Pre-nuptial settlements
Maintenance and child support
Adoption
Ancillary relief claims
International disputes
Separation.

Litigation

Our Litigation department recognises that litigation is, more often than not, the means of last resort. For this reason, the firm’s policy has always been, where possible (and where appropriate), to negotiate a favourable settlement rather than resort immediately to litigation. This is not to say that we approach litigation in a "softly softly" manner - on the contrary, if we cannot achieve our Clients’ aims by negotiation then proceedings are instituted and fought vigorously.

Much of the advocacy at court is carried out "in house" thus avoiding as much as possible the additional costs of hiring a Barrister.

The Litigation Department offers specialist advice in the following areas for both Plaintiff and Defendant:-

  • Debt collection (we offer a fully computerised system).
  • Insolvency / Bankruptcy.
  • Commercial and contractual disputes.
  • Building disputes.
  • Landlord and tenant.
  • Personal injury.
  • Consumer activities and services.
  • Employment disputes (for both employer and employee).
  • Professional negligence.
