How to find the Judgements of Courts in the UK and Ireland in the UK Courts’ Database?

Judges Gavel

Today’s blog looks at the easiest way to find judgements of the courts of the UK and Ireland.

Our previous blog on Court Transcripts contains information on how to obtain a transcript of the whole Court or Tribunal hearing. Often though, all that a lawyer, law student or layman will simply require is a copy of the judgement.

The leading judgements (and sometimes commentaries on the judgements) are often printed in legal reports. These can usually be obtained online or purchased in hard copy form from the publishers.

Did you know that there is a website devoted to many court or tribunal judgements of the various jurisdictions?

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII)

BAILII is an organisation which publishes court and tribunal judgements form the following courts and tribunals.

A full list of the courts and tribunals covered can be found on their website at the following link:

https://www.bailii.org/databases.html

Judgements are listed alphabetically according to the court or tribunal in which they were held, but there is also a useful search tool which allows the databases to be searched by citation, case name words or exact phrases. The link for the search engine is:
