What is the best day to move home?

There isn’t a specific “best” day to move home in England and Wales that applies universally to everyone. The choice of moving day depends on various factors, including personal preferences, availability of removal services and individual circumstances. However, here are a few considerations to keep in mind when selecting a moving day:

  1. Weekdays vs. Weekends:

Moving on a weekday, particularly in the middle of the week, may be more convenient as there tends to be less demand for moving services. This could potentially result in lower costs and greater availability of moving companies. However, moving on a weekend may be more practical if you and your family have work or school commitments during weekdays.

  1. End of the Month:

The end of the month is a popular time for moving, as many rental agreements and property sales tend to end on the last day of the month. Consequently, moving companies and services may be in higher demand during this time, so it’s advisable to book well in advance if you plan to move at the end of the month.

  1. School Holidays:

If you have children, moving during school holidays can be advantageous as it minimises disruption to their education. It also allows them time to settle into their new home before returning to school.

  1. Weather Considerations:

Weather conditions can impact the ease and safety of your move. While it’s impossible to predict the weather with certainty, you may want to avoid moving during extreme weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snowstorms or heatwaves, which could make the process more challenging.

  1. Personal Circumstances:

Consider your own personal circumstances, such as work schedules, availability of help from friends or family and any other commitments that may affect your ability to move on a particular day

  1. Buying and Selling on the Same Day:

If you are buying and selling in the same day you may need to coordinate the same removal dates for both transactions as your sale contract is likely to require you to give vacant possession on completion and you obviously need somewhere to go to. As most lawyers are closed over the weekend this usually means that if you are selling and buying on the same day, your move out date will have to be a weekday to accommodate the transfer of funds.

Ultimately, the best day to move home is one that aligns with your specific needs and circumstances. It’s advisable to plan ahead, book moving services in advance and consider any factors that may impact the smoothness of your move.
